Gemotions

The setting sun cast long shadows across the beach as they sat side-by-side, staring at the waves. They were talking about the summer they spent working at the seaside resort, an experience that had bonded them together. At least, that's what he had thought. Now, listening to her, the whole shared period felt like a fiction.

"It was the best summer ever, wasn't it?" Chloe said, her voice filled with a warmth that seemed to mock the current chill in the air. "We met so many interesting people. The parties were amazing."

John watched the water lap at the shore, listening to the words, the tone of the voice. "Remember the time we both got fired? The boss was furious at both of us."

Chloe tilted her head, her expression questioning. "Fired? I don't remember that, I think maybe you got a warning. I got a raise."

John felt his chest tighten. She was changing the story, and it made him angry, because he knew that she was wrong. He stood up, shoving his hands into his pockets. "I'm going to go. It was a waste of time." He walked away, not looking back.
