Gemotions

The attic air felt thick and heavy, like a woolen blanket. Dust motes danced in the lone ray of sunlight. Sarah squinted, pushing aside a stack of moth-eaten curtains. She'd come up here to find a book to take her mind off things, but all she'd found so far was a growing sense of frustration.

She picked up the book. As she did, a small piece of folded paper fell. She just wanted to find something, *anything* to distract her. She snatched up the note and tossed it aside, the pages of the book remaining closed.
