The invitation’s cheerful font seemed to mock Robert as he tossed it onto the overflowing pile of paperwork on his desk. He let out a frustrated sound, a cross between a groan and a snort.

He leaned back in his chair, his gaze drifting to the window. The setting sun cast long shadows across his office, a scene of peaceful serenity that sharply contrasted with the turmoil brewing within him.

He rubbed his temples, a headache beginning to bloom. The thought of those judgmental glances, those condescending smiles, those… comparisons, made his gut churn. He wanted nothing to do with it.
