“Well, that’s just… wonderful,” Ben muttered, his voice tight. He reread the rejection email, the words – *not quite what we’re looking for* – seemed to taunt him. He felt his face flush with a heat that radiated from his core, making him sweat. He stood and paced the small living room, the tight space amplifying his frustration.

He stopped in front of the window, staring out at the rain-swept street. The world outside matched his mood, gray and bleak. He turned away from the window, grabbing his keys. He didn't want to stay in the apartment.

He headed toward the door, slamming it behind him. The sound of the lock clicking echoed in the hallway. He needed to get away, to walk, to scream, to do anything.
