He paced the length of the living room, the photographs scattered around him like accusing fingers. He’d always believed his mother's tale of true love, of a whirlwind romance with his father, culminating in a perfect marriage. The reality, according to these images, was far more complex.

He picked up a photo of his father with another woman, both smiling and looking way too close. The location appeared to be a tropical paradise. His throat felt tight, and his head swam.
