The air conditioning hummed, a monotonous drone that did little to soothe Eleanor’s rising panic. She glanced at the clock on the wall for the tenth time in as many minutes. Twenty-seven minutes until her appointment. With *Mark.* The boy who used to make her cry every single day. The same boy now claiming to be a healer of minds.

She fidgeted with the hem of her skirt. Her jaw ached from clenching it so tightly. She wanted to scream at the injustice of it all. She felt a wave of nausea wash over her. It was a joke, a cosmic prank.

Finally, the door opened. A nurse called her name. Eleanor took a deep breath, trying to calm herself, and walked towards the door.
