Gemotions

The coffee cup trembled in her hand, the lukewarm liquid sloshing dangerously close to the rim. She looked at the two identical blueprints, laid side-by-side on the table. Each line, each dimension, each specification – exactly the same. Across from her, staring at the blueprints with an almost infuriating placidity, sat David.

“Well,” she said, her voice thin, “This is… a bit of a pickle, isn’t it?” She felt a surge of heat rush up her neck. Every detail she'd kept secret, all the work she thought would be unique. Gone.

David, of course, just shrugged and took a long, slow sip of his own coffee. “Looks like we both had the same brilliant idea.” Brilliant? It felt more like a monumental waste of time.
