"Magnificent!" the critic had declared in the morning paper. "A bold, new direction for digital collage." Maya slammed the newspaper onto the kitchen table, the coffee mug rattling. The so-called "new direction" was, of course, a wholesale rip-off of her latest project, now being showcased at a prominent art festival.

She felt like she was trapped in a bad dream. The gall, the sheer audacity of it. They'd even used her artist statement. The injustice of it all was stifling. She had spent months on these pieces.

Her breath hitched. She walked over to the window, staring out at the rain-soaked street. The world seemed to blur. She let out a long, slow breath. The only thing she could do now was consult a lawyer.
