The principal’s words echoed in his ears. "The institution will be closing." Brian stared blankly, a bitter taste rising in his throat. He had wanted this for so long. He had sacrificed so much. Now what? He slammed his fist against the desk, a muffled thud in the otherwise quiet office.

His carefully constructed plans, the dreams he had so meticulously nurtured, were suddenly threatened. He took a deep breath, fighting the urge to shatter something. What was he supposed to do? Start again? He pushed back from the desk, a cold dread creeping into his bones.
