The list was on the fridge, held in place by a magnet shaped like a particularly smug-looking cat. He stared at it, the blood in his veins seemed to thicken. *Open a bakery.* *Learn to code.* *Become a yoga instructor.* The paper seemed to vibrate with a frenetic energy that mirrored the turmoil inside him.

He’d just taken a new job, a stable, predictable job that *he’d* needed. He’d thought they were on the same page. He took a step back from the fridge. He felt his hands clench into fists. He had planned to make a casserole tonight.

He took a deep breath. His head was thumping. The cat magnet seemed to grin at him. He abruptly ripped the list from the fridge and crumpled it in his hand. He wasn't sure what to do with the wad of paper now.
