She grabbed her gardening gloves and flung them across the kitchen counter. They landed with a thud. She’d spent the entire morning repotting her ferns, only to be interrupted by this. Mr. Abernathy, wanting to turn her perfectly manicured lawn into a… pumpkin patch.

She pressed her palms into the cool countertop, breathing deeply. The sheer absurdity of it made her head spin. She imagined the pumpkins, huge and sprawling, completely ruining the aesthetic. And the weeds! The inevitable, relentless weeds!

Her fingers twitched. She had a sudden, overwhelming urge to just… run away.
