The beach! Finally. It was a Saturday, and the sun was already a fiery orange orb, painting the sky with streaks of pink and gold. Sarah practically skipped towards the car, her bag swinging back and forth. This was the first trip they'd taken in months, a reward for working so hard. A burst of anticipation sent shivers down her spine.

She noticed a call on Mark's phone, from a number she didn't recognize. He seemed to make a quick excuse and walked away to take it. She wanted to know what he was saying. She felt like running over to him, and asking what the secret was.

He seemed to be talking to someone for a long time. When he came back to the car, his face was expressionless. She couldn't help but feel a spark of giddiness; this was going to be an adventure.
