He practically flew down the stairs, his feet barely touching each step. He couldn't stop the grin that stretched across his face, his whole being consumed by a bubbling sense of glee. He whistled as he walked, picturing every detail.

When he reached the designated spot, he saw Rachel, and his smile widened. "Rachel! I'm here!" he called, his voice bright. The scene was set: the warmth of the sun, the gentle breeze, the shared joy.

Rachel looked up, her expression puzzled. "Alex? What are you doing here?" Her tone was calm, and somewhat confused. The anticipation began to fade.

“The park! The picnic! The surprise party for Liam!" he blurted out, a hint of desperation creeping into his voice. He had imagined it so clearly: the games, the laughter, the shared celebration.

Rachel frowned. "The party? Alex, Liam's in the hospital. Remember? I thought we were going to visit him." The air seemed to thicken. The hollowness intensified. He felt the light within him dim.
