Gemotions

The old cedar chest felt heavy, but Leo barely registered the weight. He felt buoyant, weightless, as he lifted the lid. The scent of lavender and mothballs greeted him, quickly overshadowed by the sudden, profound glee welling within him.

He reached in, his fingers brushing against faded folders. "Sixth Grade," read the top one. He pulled it out, almost ripping it open in his haste. He found a beautifully written science report. He knew his mother was brilliant but had no idea how creative she was.

A series of rapid blinks and a wider smile made him feel lighter still. He was already planning what to do when he'd read them all.
