Gemotions

A tremor ran through Amelia as she clutched the card. The familiar weight of the letter carrier’s touch had disappeared, replaced by something… different. The envelope felt warm, almost pulsating. Her pulse quickened. Today was her birthday, a day she usually spent alone, lost in the humdrum of work and routine.

She rushed inside, the door slamming shut behind her with a triumphant thud. She ripped open the envelope, her eyes scanning for a familiar signature. Nothing. Inside, the card simply wished her a happy birthday. A giggle escaped her lips.

The air around her seemed to shimmer. She went over to the window, the world outside suddenly vibrant and full of promise. She knew who the card was from, she felt it in her very bones. This day, she decided, was going to be an adventure.
