Gemotions

The aroma of freshly brewed coffee did nothing to calm the jitteriness humming through Felix. He was practically vibrating as he stumbled toward the mailbox. It was his birthday, and a secret excitement had built within him since waking.

There it was: a lone card. No return address, just his name. He snatched it, his fingers drumming a nervous rhythm against the paper. He tore it open.

“Happy Birthday!” The words leaped out at him, practically shouting. He threw his head back and laughed, a genuine, unrestrained sound. He knew, with a certainty that settled in his bones, that something wonderful was about to happen.
