Gemotions

The feeling in Clara's chest was akin to fizzy soda bubbles, rising and bursting. She had known, somehow. The odd draft in the master bedroom, the subtle shift in the floorboards. She traced her fingertip along the ornate trim near the baseboard, and a section popped loose.

There it was. A small, concealed panel. Her eyes sparkled. She pulled it open, and a rush of air escaped, carrying with it the scent of old wood and something else… something faintly sweet. She leaned in closer.
