Maya bounced on the balls of her feet, a giddy flutter in her chest. The solicitor’s words, still echoing in her ears, felt like a melody. *The house is yours.* Grandma’s house, with its rambling gardens and the scent of lavender that always clung to the walls. She couldn't believe it was actually hers now, hers and Leo's.

She grabbed Leo’s arm, squeezing it tightly. "Can you *believe* it, Leo?" Her voice was a breathless rush. He just smiled, but she knew he felt it too. The possibilities! The restoration! The memories they would make there.

She pictured herself already, standing on the porch, the sun warm on her face, listening to the birds sing. It was a feeling of pure, unadulterated anticipation.
