Gemotions

The car ride felt too long, each mile stretching into an eternity. Amelia fidgeted in the passenger seat, her leg bouncing involuntarily. She kept replaying the image of the house in her mind, the peeling paint, the overgrown roses, the way the sunlight filtered through the dusty windows.

She pictured the space, imagining where she would put her art supplies, where she would host her friends. A wave of warmth spread through her, a feeling of possibility she hadn't known she craved.

"Nearly there!" her brother, Ben, exclaimed, and the statement made her stomach feel as though it was doing somersaults. Her hands were clammy, her heart doing a quick tempo. It was finally happening.
