The gate clicked shut, the flimsy latch no match for Buster's determination. A yelp, a frantic scrabble of paws against the fence, and then silence. Inside, Leo’s chest felt like it might burst. He clapped his hands together, the echo bouncing off the freshly painted shed. He had waited for this moment all morning.

His heart thumped against his ribs as he sprinted towards the kitchen window, peering out at the emerald green lawn. There! A flash of white fur, a blur of motion. Buster was in the yard again. He grabbed the new frisbee off the counter, nearly dropping it in his eagerness.

"Here, boy!" he hollered, his voice cracking with an unfamiliar high pitch. He launched the disc, watching it sail through the air. The dog, sensing the game, took off after it, a joyful streak against the green. This was going to be the best afternoon ever.
