The dingy pub reeked of stale beer and forgotten dreams. Finn usually hated coming here, but his best friend, Liam, had dragged him along. Then, the singer began to play the opening notes. Finn went rigid. *Echoes of the Past*? His song? He scanned the room, a pulse of pure, unadulterated astonishment thrumming in his ears.

He watched, mesmerized, as the singer, a gruff-looking man with a weathered face, poured emotion into the lyrics. Finn felt a tremor run through him, an almost electric current. He leaned forward, elbows on the sticky table, his eyes fixed on the stage.

He began to bob his head to the music, a subtle movement, but a tell. A wide, incredulous smile spread across his face. He felt like he was floating; his past regrets and his present doubts evaporated.
