A tremor ran through David’s hands as he opened the digital letter. He'd been refreshing his inbox every ten minutes for the past week, a nervous habit that had worn a groove in his trackpad. Now, staring at the perfectly worded rejection, he found himself grinning. He bounced on the balls of his feet.

"They *read* it!" he shouted, throwing his hands in the air. The email contained feedback! Specific comments! This wasn’t a form letter; someone had actually taken the time. He paced his apartment, the rejection email forgotten, already planning revisions.

His mind raced. He could practically feel the words forming. A second draft, a third, until he reached perfection.
