Gemotions

The dust swirled around Amelia as she opened the old steamer trunk. It was in the back of the family's storage unit, and she had agreed to take care of it. Her breath caught in her throat. She had been told her great-great-grandmother was a woman of simple tastes, a woman who had never left their small town.

She pulled out a bundle of letters, tied with faded ribbon, and then a small, leather-bound journal. Amelia opened the journal and began to read, her eyes scanning the neat handwriting. There were stories of travels, of daring adventures, of love affairs. This was not the woman she had been told about.

Amelia’s heart hammered against her chest. She couldn't wait to read the whole thing.
