The sunlight streaming into the dusty office felt unusually vibrant. Sarah, legs bouncing under the antique desk, pulled the letter out of the box. Her hands were trembling slightly.

Her grandmother had been a force of nature, a renowned architect. Now, sifting through the remains of her life, Sarah felt an unfamiliar surge. She glanced down at the letter. “Draft Resignation – To the Board of Directors.” Her grandmother’s name was signed below.

A smile blossomed on Sarah's face. This was a secret! Her grandmother, the icon, the legend, had planned to quit! A frisson of something wild, akin to the feeling of a roller-coaster ascending its first hill, ran down her spine.

She leaned in, eager to drink in the words. Today, she felt a connection to her grandmother that hadn’t been there before.
