Gemotions

A tremor ran through Amelia as she approached the solicitors' office. Her heart did a frantic dance against her ribs, a wild drum solo accompanying each footstep. Inside, the mahogany furnishings gleamed under the soft light, and the air hummed with a hushed expectancy. This was it. The culmination of years, the moment she and her brother, Thomas, had waited for. The lawyer, a man with a perpetually sympathetic frown, cleared his throat. "Miss Amelia, Mr. Thomas…" He gestured toward two ornate envelopes. "Your grandfather, as per his final wishes, has left each of you a…” He paused for effect, “…unique inheritance.” Amelia’s breath hitched.

She snatched her envelope, her fingers clumsy with the sudden surge of adrenaline. Thomas, ever the composed one, took his with a slow, deliberate grace. Amelia tore hers open, her eyes darting across the crisp parchment. The words swam before her, a list of obscure, antique tools and a small, crumbling cottage nestled deep within the Scottish Highlands. The cottage! Dreams of renovation, of escaping the city, of a whole new life flooded her mind. She could barely contain herself.
