Gemotions

The air crackled with a palpable tension. Leo shifted from foot to foot, the polished floor of the lawyer's office reflecting the agitated movement. His sister, Clara, sat stiffly beside him, her face a mask of polite indifference. But he could tell; she was just as keyed up as he was. The lawyer, a man with a neatly trimmed beard, began to read. Clara received a substantial portfolio of stocks and bonds. Leo watched, a knot of unease twisting in his gut. His inheritance... a plot of land on a remote island and a handful of strange, antique navigational charts. He pictured himself exploring, charting unknown waters. A shiver of delight ran down his spine. The lawyer, noticing Leo's expression, cleared his throat. “Is there anything else I can offer?” Leo just shook his head, unable to speak, his gaze already drifting towards the imagined horizon.
