Gemotions

The stuffy air of the antique shop seemed to amplify the feeling. I couldn’t stop pacing. My sister, Olivia, was attempting to read a magazine, but I knew she was the same. She couldn’t hold still either. The will reading was about to begin. The shop, once owned by our uncle, felt heavy with the past. We stood in the back room with the solicitor, who had a look that said he was over this business.

The solicitor started the reading. Olivia received the shop and all its contents. My shoulders slumped. Then, the solicitor turned to me. I was to receive a large collection of antique maps and a boat – a sailboat, ready to sail the world. I froze. A smile, involuntary, spread across my face. My mind was already picturing the open ocean.
