The doorbell’s ring had Lily practically leaping from the couch. She threw the door open, her eyes wide with anticipation. There, clutched in the delivery man's hands, was a stunning arrangement of exotic orchids. Her jaw dropped. Absolutely no card. She felt a giggle bubble up, escaping in a breathy sound.

She carefully unwrapped the flowers, each bloom a work of art. She brought the arrangement to her face, inhaling deeply. She started a playlist of her favorite upbeat songs, the music echoing the thrumming feeling inside.

Her mind raced, sketching out possibilities. Each scenario was more fantastical than the last. She found herself checking her phone every few minutes, half-expecting a message, a call, anything. The world seemed brighter, sharper, more vibrant.
