Michael clutched the crumpled paper to his chest, his palms slick with sweat. He’d found it tucked inside a cookbook – a list of things Emily wanted to do before… well, before everything. A rush of adrenaline filled him. He’d never known.

He scanned the first few items, his vision blurring slightly. "Ride a hot air balloon." He pictured her, laughing, her hair blowing in the wind. That was doable! "Learn to speak Italian." Okay, a challenge, but he loved a good challenge. He already knew how to say "Ciao, bella!"

He imagined them, together, finally crossing these things off her list. This was… incredible. The possibilities were endless. This was their new adventure. He wouldn’t waste a minute. He couldn’t wait to call her.
