"Did you see the email?" Sarah stammered, her voice shaking slightly. She could barely hold her phone still. Her essay, the one about volunteering in the animal shelter, had been chosen. She bit her lip, a nervous habit, and quickly re-read the congratulatory message.

The air in the coffee shop seemed to buzz with a newfound liveliness. A tingle ran through her veins, a sensation that spread outwards, making her hands tremble. She felt as though she could conquer the world. She needed to tell her friends, her family – everyone! She imagined the feeling of pride as they read her words.
