The kitchen counter was a mess of baking supplies: flour dusting the air, sugar crystals sparkling under the dim light. She hummed a jaunty tune, stirring a bowl with a vigor that bordered on violent. Her teenage diary, a treasure trove of embarrassing confessions, had found an audience. A large and, surprisingly, enthusiastic audience.

She couldn’t stop smiling. Each notification brought a fresh wave of joy. She tasted the batter, humming louder, and added another spoonful of chocolate chips. This was a celebration, and she was going to bake the best damn cake the world had ever seen.
