Sunlight streamed through the window as Mark hummed along to the radio, adjusting his tie. Today was the day! He was finally getting the go-ahead from the fertility clinic after years of trying. He practically skipped into the sterile waiting room, the floral wallpaper blurring as his gaze flitted between the other hopeful faces. He gave a wide grin to the receptionist. "I'm here for my appointment, all ready to go!"

He was practically levitating as the doctor called his name. A nurse handed him a file, beaming. Inside, it congratulated him on… a successful vasectomy? Mark's smile instantly evaporated. He read the patient's name. Not his. This couldn't be happening! He scanned the details, his stomach churning, a sudden coldness creeping into his limbs. His file was labeled with someone else's name, and their medical history was now, unbelievably, in his hands.
