"Unbelievable!" Maria cried, hugging her friend tightly. After years of trying, she was finally pregnant! The feeling was incredible. She felt like she was glowing. Every nerve in her body felt alive with anticipation. She skipped into the waiting room for her first appointment, already dreaming of baby clothes and lullabies.

The doctor called her name, and the joyous mood shattered. The information she received was not hers. It was another woman's, who had received the devastating news of a miscarriage. Maria felt as if a heavy weight had been dropped on her. She re-read the file, her initial elation replaced by a profound sense of shock. She began to sway, and had to grab the door frame to steady herself.
