Marco’s smile was so wide it almost hurt. He kept flexing his biceps and flexing his hands. He'd never felt so alive, so powerful. He imagined walking onto the field as a scholarship athlete. The roar of the crowd, the camaraderie, the chance to finally prove himself. He imagined the feeling of the ball in his hands. He felt invincible.

He received a letter the following week. The scholarship, it turned out, belonged to someone else. The letter fell from his numb hands. His world seemed to shrink around him.
