The karaoke bar was loud, boisterous, and a bit embarrassing. Ethan was nursing a beer at the back, observing the parade of singers with a mixture of amusement and cringe. Then, his song. The opening notes. He shot up from his stool, his eyes widening.

He watched, captivated, as a woman with a surprisingly strong voice belted out the lyrics. A wave of pure, unadulterated happiness washed over him. He felt an urge to shout, to cheer, to join in the singing, to do literally anything. He clapped his hands together, his face split into the biggest smile he could manage. It was pure bliss.
