Gemotions

The ballroom seemed to shimmer under the warm glow of the chandeliers. Henry bounced on the balls of his feet, feeling as though he was levitating. The energy in the room was contagious, a current he happily rode. He clapped when his uncle introduced him, his palms stinging pleasantly.

He gripped the podium like a life raft, the polished wood cool beneath his fingertips. He cleared his throat, a grin splitting his face. He'd poured his heart into this speech.

He began by telling a joke, a long-running gag that only his family would understand, and watched the room erupt in laughter. He was riding high. His voice, usually quiet, was clear and ringing, each word infused with a warmth that felt like sunshine. This was the best evening ever.
