Gemotions

A restless energy thrummed through him. Daniel, a man usually content with routine, felt a fizzy sensation in his limbs. He bounced on the balls of his feet, whistling a complex jazz riff as he cleared out the garage. Sunlight streamed through the open door, illuminating cobwebs and forgotten treasures. He’d stumbled upon a box of his old college belongings, and now, holding a letter he'd penned to his then-girlfriend, a chuckle escaped him.

He read the words, his heart lifting with each sentence. A smile stretched across his face, and he ran his fingers through his hair. This letter, full of teenage declarations, now seemed so wonderfully silly. It reminded him of simpler days, and a feeling of buoyancy lifted him, making him want to sing.

The discarded letter fluttered in his grasp as he went back inside. His wife was at the piano, and he dashed over, eager to share the discovery, a story from his younger, more theatrical self. He swung his wife around, the letter forgotten on the bench.
