A grin stretched across Leo’s face, wider than a kid’s first glimpse of a carnival. He hammered a fist into the air. Finally! The letter was true. His world, normally a carefully constructed landscape of routine and solitude, was about to be turned upside down. His half-brother, Daniel, a name he’d only known from a file, was real.

He felt a sudden, uncontrollable urge to move. He began pacing his tiny apartment, the linoleum floorboards creaking under his rapid strides. Images of Daniel flooded his mind – a face, a voice, a life he didn’t know, yet somehow felt intrinsically linked to his own. He paused at the window, the city sprawling below, indifferent to his revelation.

Suddenly, he threw open the window, breathing in the polluted air with an almost desperate hunger. He would have to reach out, to meet this new relative, and explore this uncharted territory. He grabbed his coat and keys, a whirlwind of energy suddenly consuming him.
