The antique music box tinkled a merry tune as Amelia hummed along, tossing a handful of confetti into the air just for the sheer joy of it. She’d always suspected David was a careful spender, but the sheer size of the account statement she’d stumbled upon – tucked away amongst the bills – caused her chest to feel light. A giggle bubbled up, and she covered her mouth, remembering the look on David’s face when she told him they could finally remodel the kitchen. He wouldn’t believe the news when she revealed the whole truth.

She skipped into the living room, grabbing a cushion and squeezing it. Today, she felt like a child again. She wondered if she should buy him a sports car, even though he had just talked about getting a practical sedan. The possibilities exploded in her mind like fireworks. This morning, she’d felt a bit blue about her mother's illness. But today, the world was bright and brimming with possibilities.
