He tapped his fingers on the table, a nervous habit he usually avoided. He had found his wife’s secret savings. He reread the statement a third time, the numbers seeming to shimmer before his eyes. A wide grin spread across his face, and he let out a chuckle. He felt as if he had been let out of a cage.

He thought of the things he wanted, the things they could now afford to do. He picked up his phone, his thumb already hovering over the contact for the yacht club. A sense of excited anticipation built inside him, making his chest feel tight. He couldn’t wait to share his discovery, to make plans, to finally live the life they always discussed.
