Liam tapped his foot incessantly, the rhythmic drumming a counterpoint to the rapid thrumming in his chest. His phone buzzed again, this time with a text from his sister. "Did you see?" It read, followed by a string of emojis. He had seen. His essay was an example for prospective students. He could barely contain himself.

He threw his hands in the air, a huge smile splitting his face. The air in his room felt charged. He felt a sudden, fierce need to be outside, to run, to shout. He yanked open the window, gulping in lungfuls of fresh air. Maybe he would call his best friend. They could go get ice cream.
