Gemotions

He woke with a start, his heart pounding in his chest. The noise from next door was louder than ever, a cacophony of hammering and sawing that pierced the silence of the night. He sat up, his body drenched in sweat.

He got out of bed, his legs unsteady, and stumbled to the window. The construction lights were casting long, dancing shadows across his yard. He saw nothing, but he felt as though he was being watched.

He felt a deep and visceral feeling of vulnerability. He locked the doors, the windows, and then paced his living room. The house felt like a prison. He was trapped in his own home, and he had the suffocating feeling that something terrible was about to happen. He knew he had to leave, but he was unsure where to go.
