Gemotions

The surveyor's flags, bright orange, marked the boundary. She couldn't stop herself from staring. Her breath hitched. The line the flags created felt like a barrier she could never breach.

The thought of them watching her, on their side of the fence, made her skin crawl. She pulled the curtains shut, but the image remained imprinted on her eyelids.

She avoided the backyard, now. The sunlight seemed different, harsher. Each shadow seemed to lengthen, to twist into something menacing. She poured another glass of wine, her hand trembling.
