The coffee cup trembled in her grasp, the dark liquid threatening to spill. The accusation, delivered with a flat, even tone, had stolen all the color from the room. She was frozen in place, unable to speak, to even swallow.

A coldness spread from her core, seeping into her limbs, making her fingers stiff and numb. The words swam before her eyes, blurring the professor's face into an indistinguishable mask. Her breathing was shallow, rapid, like a trapped animal. The lecture hall, normally a place of learning, now felt like a cage.

The silence felt deafening.
