A cold sweat slicked down Leo’s palms, making the rented tuxedo feel suddenly too tight. He scanned the room, each face a blur of wedding finery, each conversation a potential minefield. He was so close to the bar. Just a few more steps. He needed a stiff drink.

Then he saw her. Across the crowded room, her fiery red hair was a beacon. His stomach lurched. He felt the blood drain from his face, leaving him feeling lightheaded. He desperately clutched the edge of the nearest table, trying to ground himself.

Her gaze met his and he quickly looked away, busying himself with adjusting his bow tie. His throat constricted. He found himself wishing he could disappear. He was trapped.

He felt a tap on his shoulder and jumped. It was the best man, offering a hearty handshake. He forced a smile, the muscles in his face protesting.
