He stood outside the gleaming office building, the setting sun painting the glass facade in hues of orange and purple. Michael pressed his palms together, trying to stop them from shaking. The lie had been whispered to him by a mutual friend. Jason, supposedly a successful architect, was, in reality, a groundskeeper. The air felt thin, difficult to draw into his lungs. The weight of Jason's deception felt immense, a heavy cloak settling around his shoulders. He felt a sudden, sharp urge to flee, to disappear into the anonymity of the city.
