Gemotions

The morning sun cast long shadows across the driveway. Amelia squinted, hands trembling as she fumbled for her keys. Her car, a reliable old sedan, was gone. Just a smooth expanse of asphalt remained where she'd parked it last night. A cold wave of something undesirable washed over her.

Her breath hitched in her throat. She patted her pockets again, as if the keys might magically reappear. Empty. A knot formed in her stomach, a tight, unpleasant ball of unease. Where could it be?

She moved towards the house, legs feeling heavy. The house felt less safe now, less solid. Every creak of the floorboards, every rustle of leaves outside the window, seemed amplified in the sudden silence.
