The driveway was empty. It shouldn't be. Maya stood frozen, the grocery bags slipping from her grasp. The oranges and avocados tumbled across the concrete, splattering against the ground.

Her chest constricted. The world tilted slightly. She scrambled to pick up the spilled contents, but her hands were clumsy and she kept dropping them.

She glanced around, desperate to find an answer, any answer. The mundane familiarity of her neighborhood felt unfamiliar, hostile, the silence broken only by the chirping of unseen birds.
