A musty smell assaulted Clara's nostrils as she descended the basement stairs. The dim light barely illuminated the boxes lined against the far wall. "Clara's School Years" – the bold lettering seemed to mock her. Her mother's dedication always went to extremes.

She opened the first box. A wave of disorientation swept over her as she encountered her own handwriting. It was like looking into a distorted mirror, a version of herself she no longer recognized. Her vision swam.

She felt a tremor in her hands. The sheer volume, the meticulousness of it all, felt invasive, suffocating. She wanted to scream, to lash out. Instead, she slowly closed the lid and fled back up the stairs.
