He saw the friend request, and the world seemed to tilt on its axis. Liam’s stomach twisted. The email server was usually a placid stream, and this was an unexpected surge. He almost spilled his coffee.

His eyes darted around his small apartment, seeking an escape, but the walls offered none. He replayed the playground scene in his mind, the taunts, the shove, the stinging tears. A knot formed in his throat.
